[로마서 4:1~8]
1 그런즉 육신으로 우리 조상인 아브라함이 무엇을 얻었다 하리요
What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter?
2 만일 아브라함이 행위로써 의롭다 하심을 받았으면 자랑할 것이 있으려니와 하나님 앞에서는 없느니라
If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about-but not before God.
3 성경이 무엇을 말하느냐 아브라함이 하나님을 믿으매 그것이 그에게 의로 여겨진 바 되었느니라
What does the Scripture say? 'Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.'
4 일하는 자에게는 그 삯이 은혜로 여겨지지 아니하고 보수로 여겨지거니와
Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation.
6 일한 것이 없이 하나님께 의로 여기심을 받는 사람의 복에 대하여 다윗이 말한 바
David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
7 불법이 사함을 받고 죄가 가리어짐을 받는 사람들은 복이 있고
'Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
8 주께서 그 죄를 인정하지 아니하실 사람은 복이 있도다 함과 같으니라
Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.'

* Why is prayer so hard? We were created to know and to have fellowship with God, so why do we struggle to pray? Many Christians know that they should pray and even want to be prayerful, but they do not pray.
☞ It all comes down to your view of God.
We don't open up to the people we don't like or trust. Likewise, we don't open up to God because we don't like or trust God.
* So many Christians think of God as high, and mighty, but not lovely and delightful; holy, but not kind and compassionate. Therefore, they try to EARN His love. They think of God as a hard and distant BOSS. As a result, they find themselves in chains. They can't pray easily because they don't really want to go to God as a hard boss.
§ Our bad view of God:
God is high, mighty, holy (not lovely, delightful, kind, compassionate) ⇒ God is a hard and distant Boss ⇒ We don't want to go to God as a hard boss ⇒ We can't pray easily ⇒ We are in chains.
* Romans 4:1-8 shows how the Gospel breaks those chains.

How did Abraham relate to God? Did Abraham think he needed to EARN God's love with a good life? ☞ NO!
3 아브라함이 하나님을 믿으매 그것이 그에게 의로 여겨진 바 되었느니라
'Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.'
4 일하는 자에게는 그 삯이 은혜로 여겨지지 아니하고 보수로 여겨지거니와
Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due
6 일한 것이 없이 하나님께 의로 여기심을 받는 사람의 복에 대하여 다윗이 말한 바
And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness.
* 'To justify' = To declare righteous.
Here is God who loved you before you ever loved Him.
* On what basis did He justify the ungodly?
→ Simply, when like Abraham, they believe in Him.
7 불법이 사함을 받고 죄가 가리어짐을 받는 사람들은 복이 있고
'Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
8 주께서 그 죄를 인정하지 아니하실 사람은 복이 있도다 함과 같으니라
Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.'
→ A blessed person is not a person who does not have a sin. The blessed and happy person is a person who has sins but they are covered.
☞ Joyful exchange of the Gospel: Belief ↔ Death / Judgement
☞ Like Jacob: Jacob wanted the blessing of the firstborn, so he put on his brother Esau's clothes and went to his father Issac pretending to be his elder brother. And as clothed as his brother, he received the blessing! - J. Calvin -
☞ We, likewise, clothed ourselves as our elder brother, Christ!!!
야곱이 형 에서의 가죽옷을 입고서 축복을 받은 것처럼, 우리는 우리의 맏형/맏오빠인 예수님의 옷을 입고서 하나님의 축복을 받는다!!! So brilliant!!!
* "I want to be found in Christ" = by being clothed in Christ = through faith in Christ
* Our problem is that we so often go through life like Adam and Eve, trying to dress ourselves before God in the fig leaves of our own righteousness.
☞ It didn't work with Adam and Even, and it doesn't work with us, either.
☞ The Lord God made clothes of skins for Adam and Eve, just like we need to be clothed with Christ!!
범죄한 아담과 이브가 무화과 잎으로 가려도 소용 없었던 것처럼 우리의 행위로는 의롭다 하심을 받을 수 없다. 아담과 하와를 위해 하나님께서 가죽옷을 입히신 것처럼, 우리는 예수님을 입어 의롭다 칭함을 얻는다!
☞ That is how the Gospel breaks the chain of guilt!
M. Luther's advice: When the devil throws the sins up to you and says, "You deserve death and hell!", you tell him, "I know I deserve death and hell, so what of it? For I know the One who has suffered for me! He has made satisfaction for all my sins! His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of God!!"
No sin of ours is greater than God's grace.
However great our sin is, the blood of Christ is stronger!
We who know we are sinners can go to God!
When the chain of guilt is broken, you begin to think 'What kind of God would treat me so kindly?'
☞ Only a fountain of goodness, only a God of mercy, love and compassion can.
☞ With that, the last chain starts to break.
John 8: Truly truly I say to you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
But if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!
When we see God as in the Gospel, we begin to delight in Him. We love because He first loved us. When we see His love, we begin to want to walk with Him more and more. We begin to hate the sin that once we thought was better than God, for we come to realize that God is more pleasurable than sins.
증말이지... ㅠㅠ 마이클 리브스 목사님 설교는 우리 담임 목사님 말씀대로 버릴 문장이나 심지어 단어조차 단 하나도 없다! 꼭... 나의 교수님 생각이 날 정도로.ㅠ 보고 싶어라 선생님.ㅠㅠ 입술에서 발화되는 모든 문장, 모든 단어에 그의 존재가 실린, 그의 존재로만 이루어진 사람. 신중히 발화된 문장은 다시 중복이나 번복되지 않는 사람. 시와 같은 사람. 이런 분이 어떤 사람인지 잘 알아서... 리브스 목사님을 아끼시는 오정현 목사님의 마음을 알 것 같다.
아담과 하와에게 가죽옷을 입히신 하나님은 최초의 인간이 최초의 범죄를 한 바로 그 순간 영원한 구원을 선포하셨던 거구나. 그리고 야곱과 에서의 이야기가 이렇게 연결되다니. 정말이지 성경의 모든 구약은 오로지 예수 그리스도의 십자가 사건 하나를 가리킨다던 어제 주일 목사님의... 리비 목사님이었던 것 같은데? 아닌가? 암튼 그 말씀이 맞네. 설마하니 에서의 옷을 입은 야곱이 에서의 복을 받는 이야기가 예수님의 피를 덮어 쓴 우리가 하나님의 양자가 되어 그 기업을 받는 것의 예표였다니. 짜릿하다. 즐거워 미칠 것 같아, 이런 설교는.
Yes, I know I deserve death and hell, SO WHAT OF IT??? I have my Savior, the Son of God, so bring it on!
그래서 머 어쩌라고?!! 에서 빵 터졌. 어휴 후련해라. 말도 안 되는 면죄부로 의분했던 루터 씨는 성격이 불같으셨는가.
